Asana’s Major 2026 Update: Agentic Work Management (AWM) — How AI Teammates and Dash Are Reshaping Enterprise Collaboration

As businesses continue adopting various generative AI tools, many teams have found that individual productivity has improved, but the progress of cross-functional projects and overall organizational efficiency has not increased at the same pace.
One reason is that most AI tools still operate primarily at the individual level, without a central governance core that connects AI-driven tasks with broader business objectives.
To address this challenge, global work management leader Asana has officially introduced Agentic Work Management (AWM), bringing enterprise collaboration from traditional Collaborative Work Management (CWM) into a new era of human-AI collaboration.
Key Highlight 1: AI Teammates — Virtual Team Members Integrated into the Work Graph
Unlike traditional add-on chatbots, AI Teammates are designed by Asana as virtual team members with their own user identities, integrated directly into Asana’s Work Graph:
Natural assignment and collaboration: Just like working with a human colleague, you can assign tasks to AI Teammates within a project, @mention them in comments, or ask them to perform specific workflows.
Enterprise-level security and governance: AI Teammates inherit Asana’s existing identity controls and access permissions. If an employee does not have access to a sensitive project, the AI Teammate cannot access it either, helping keep enterprise data secure.
Learning from feedback and accumulating experience: AI Teammates can learn from feedback across tasks. Through each collaborative interaction, they can absorb guidance and continuously build experience without requiring complex manual maintenance.
Pre-built AI Teammates (Teammates Gallery): The Teammates Gallery provides pre-built AI Teammates for specific areas such as marketing and IT, with each Teammate equipped with 6 to 7 specialized skills.
Custom skills support: AI Teammates can also import Anthropic Claude Skill Markdown (.md) files, allowing them to perform work according to business rules and templates defined by the organization.
Key Highlight 2: Dash — Your Dedicated Enterprise Chief of Staff
Replacing the previous Smart Chat, the new Dash is positioned as an Asana work expert and Chief of Staff for both organizations and individuals:
Organization-wide insights and search: Dash has visibility across the Work Graph within your permitted access and can answer questions such as, “Why is this project delayed?” or “Which prerequisite tasks are blocked?”
Bulk actions and project creation: With a simple text instruction, Dash can automatically generate structured projects and tasks based on best practices. It can also perform bulk updates across projects, such as moving all deadlines in a specific project back by one week.
Integration with external tools: Dash can directly connect with external tools such as Gmail and Google Calendar, bringing information from emails and calendars into Asana workflows.
Key Highlight 3: Ready to Use — Free AI Requests Included in Every Plan
To make it easier for businesses to experience the benefits of AWM, Asana includes AI Teammates and Dash across all plan tiers — Starter, Advanced, Enterprise, and Enterprise+ — with a monthly allowance of AI Requests.
Flexible Sharing of Free AI Requests
All plans include 5 free AI requests per user per month, with the allowance shared across the organization.
For Starter and Advanced, the total account allowance is capped at 50 requests per month, while Enterprise and Enterprise+ have a monthly limit of 250 requests. Team members can allocate these requests according to their actual needs.
Why Can Asana AWM Outperform Fragmented AI Tools?
Many competitors, such as Monday.com, ClickUp, and Notion, use AI primarily to retrieve information from a “single document or scattered spreadsheet,” much like searching for a document in a disorganized filing cabinet.
Asana’s core strength lies in its Work Graph:
Task ➔ Project ➔ Portfolio ➔ Company Goal: Work context and dependencies across the organization are closely connected.
When an AI Teammate completes a task, the result is directly associated with an assignee and due date, and is immediately reflected in the organization’s broader goals, providing enterprise-level transparency and accountability.
